I wrote this in the aftermath of the horrific tsunami in northeastern Japan in 2011. Heavy image I know but every composition starts somewhere. After hearing a rough draft, Jimmy Haslip urged me to write an additional melody. Took us a minute to figure out who should play what. The middle “rocked out” section was born after hearing Aaron Kruziki’s practice demo.
